I’m Not Spiritual. But I’m Religious.

For a long time, I thought being spiritual and being religious were supposed to mean the same thing.

They aren’t.

I don’t meditate every morning.

I don’t have all the answers about faith, energy, or the universe.

And I wouldn’t necessarily describe myself as a “spiritual person.”

But I am religious.

And over time, I’ve realised that religion, at least for me, isn’t always about having all the answers. Sometimes, it is simply about having something that keeps you grounded.

Something that connects you to your roots.

Religion, For Me, Is About Tradition

For me, religion has always been closely connected to family and tradition.

It is the rituals I grew up watching.

It is visiting the temple, celebrating festivals, sitting together for aarti, preparing prasad, and making time for traditions that have been passed down through generations. 🪔

These moments may seem simple, but they carry something much deeper.

They remind us where we come from.

They bring families together.

And they create a sense of continuity between generations.

Perhaps that is why Ganpati season feels different. ❤️

Why Ganpati Feels So Personal

There is something incredibly special about bringing Bappa home.

It starts with preparing the space, decorating the house, arranging the idol and getting everything ready for the celebrations.

Then comes the aarti.

The prayers.

The prasad.

The conversations.

The laughter.

And, most importantly, everyone coming together.

For those moments, everything else seems to slow down.

It isn’t just about performing a ritual. It is about creating a shared experience with the people around you.

And perhaps that is what makes it so meaningful.

Faith Doesn’t Always Need an Explanation

I may not understand spirituality in the way some people do.

I don’t always think about faith, spirituality, or belief in the same way.

But I know what religion means to me.

It is about staying connected to my roots.

It is about family, traditions and the moments that bring people together.

Sometimes, faith doesn’t need a complicated explanation.

Sometimes, you simply feel it in the traditions you continue, the people you share them with, and the memories you create along the way.
